John Lynde "Jack" Anderson, of Chattanooga, died on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012.He was born in Hamden, Conn., and raised in Minneapolis, Minn. He was a valedictorian of the 1939 Marshall High School class, attended Deep Springs College, and received a bachelor of chemistry degree with high distinction from the University of Minnesota. After serving in WWII as a U.S. Naval aviator, he continued his education at the University of Illinois where he received a Ph.D. in organic chemistry. He had a career as a chemist, inventor and businessman. He was author of approximately 35 professional and trade publication papers and was awarded over 60 U.S. and foreign patents. He was a 65 year member of the American Chemical Society and had served as chairman of the the Chattanooga chapter. He served on the boards of the Chattanooga Symphony, the Chattanooga Opera and the Chattanooga Ballet Dr. Anderson was predeceased by his siblings, Frances Moran, Richard Anderson, Theodore Anderson and Dorothea Antman.He is survived by his wife, the former Norma Brainard; and seven children, James (Alicia) Anderson, of Charlotte N.C., Eric Anderson, of Seattle Wash., Carl Andersson, of Giadbach Germany, Clifford (Valerie) Anderson, of Tempe Ariz., Thomas (Robin) Anderson, of Seattle Wash., Karen Anderson, of Scottsdale Ariz., Andrea (Nancy) Schurr, of Chattanooga; and nine grandchildren, Keith Whitener, Caitlin Whitener, Liv Karen Andersson, Theodore Clifford Andersson, Sasha Anderson, Katya Anderson, Adam Anderson, Zachary Schurr, Jackson Schurr.
