Mary Almeta Strickland, 69, of Chattanooga, was called to her eternal rest on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013. She was employed with American Manufacturing for 30 years and an active member of the local Steelworkers Union. She was a faithful member of St Peter's Missionary Baptist Church. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, R. MaShay Burnam, Felicia (Michael) Collins, of Chattanooga, Chanel (William) Hilliker, of Cleveland, Tenn.; her grandchildren, William Hilliker III, Kodi Brown; her god-granddaughter, Shaunte' Hunter; sister, Ruthie Mae Estell, of Talladega, Ala.; sister-in-law, Alice Hightower; brother-in-law, Bobby Strickland, niece, Joyce (Jerry) Stewart, who is also like a sister; her nieces, Edna Sanders and Judi Woodard; nephews, Morris Brown Jr. and Ronnie Hightower, all of Chattanooga; two loving friends, Mrs. Ida Gibson and Mrs. Choice Fletcher, of Ooltewah; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.Mrs. Strickland will lie-in-state after 12:30 p.m. today in the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home.The Homegoing will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the chapel Minister William T. Clark as the eulogist.Interment in Shepherd Community Cemetery.
