Ollie Shelton

CLEVELAND Ollie Mack Shelton, 78, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, in a local hospital. He was born on Aug. 15, 1934 to the late Benton M. and Hazel Munger Shelton. Mack was of the Baptist faith and a very active member at Clingan Ridge Baptist Church. He retired from the city of Cleveland Public Works department after 20 years of service. He was an avid softball player and umpire, while also enjoying playing in Rook tournaments with friends all over the area. He raised Tennessee Walking Horses for his entire life, spending much of his time tending to them. He also enjoyed working with family and close friends in the hay field on the Wilson farm. Among all other things Mack enjoyed throughout his life, his family was his pride and joy, by far. He cherished time with them whenever they were together, especially enjoying weekends spent at their cabin on the Hiawassee river.In addition to his mother and father, Mack was preceded in death by one son, Ricky Dean Shelton; one great-granddaughter, Chloe Shelton; two sisters, Ruth Wilkinson and Pearl Graham; two brothers, Benton Shelton Jr. and R. L. Shelton; mother and father-in-law, George and Mary Lou Roberson.He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 49 years, Nina Roberson Shelton; two sons, Rocky Shelton and Blake (Melanie) Shelton; one daughter, Shelli (Robbie) Cody; eight grandchildren, Jeremiah Shelton, of Panama City Beach, Fla., Josiah (Beth) Shelton, Jessica Shelton (fianc Aaron), Jared (Tanya) Shelton, Trae and Allie Beth Cody, Karlie and Kenslie Shelton; four great-grandchildren, Eli Shelton, Trinity Reagan, Casen Shelton and Cailee Shelton; one sister Elizabeth (Bill) Leamon; one sister-in-law, Ruth Draughon; one brother-in-law, James (Sandy) Roberson. He also leaves behind many other nieces, nephews, extended family and special friends whom he loved dearly.A celebration of Macks life will be held at 11 a.m. today, Jan. 12, at Clingan Ridge located at 2412 Georgetown Road NW in Cleveland, with the Rev. Lamar Dietz and Rev. Michael Broome officiating.Interment will follow the service at Tasso United Methodist Church Cemetery. Rocky Shelton, Blake Shelton, Josiah Shelton, Jared Shelton, Trae Cody, Tim Bacon, John Buchanan and Dale Wilson will serve as pallbearers.The family received friends at the church Friday night and also one hour prior to the service today.You are invited to share a story, memory, or your personal condolences with Macks family at his online guestbook located at www.companionfunerals.com.Companion Funeral & Cremation Service and the Cody family are honored to assist the Shelton family with these arrangements.
