Arlene Igou

FORT PAYNE Arlene Carden Igou, 91, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at DeKalb Regional Medical Center.Survivors include her loving husband of 70 years, Dr. R.A. Igou; son, Richard (Deema) Igou, of Fort Payne; daughters, Susan Long, of Fort Payne, and Mary (Ben) Shurett, of Boaz; sister-in-law, Hazel Sauls; 9 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; and uncle, James Carden, of Rome, Ga.Mrs. Igou was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Fort Payne, where she was devoted to her Driskill-Wear Sunday School Class and her United Methodist Women's Circle. She was a talented cook and enjoyed preparing delicious meals for the family she loved. She was blessed with a green thumb and had an avid love of reading, traveling to the British Isles and the American west and camping across the United States. She loved the University of Alabama and was active for many years in the DeKalb County Medical Auxiliary.Services will be today, Jan. 14, at 2 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Fort Payne with the Revs. Ricky Smith and Jim Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.
