Clemmie Carden

Clemmie McInturff Carden, 99, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013.She was born on Feb. 4, 1914 in Harrison, to the late John and Artie McInturff. Mrs. Carden was a longtime resident of Silverdale and a member of Silverdale Baptist Church where she played the piano and organ.She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, William "Bill" Carden; son, Charles William Carden Jr.; and daughter, Janet Elaine Carden Dolan.Bill and Clemmie worked at several TVA Projects in East Tennessee before taking a job in the Panama Canal Zone in 1952. They lived there for 20 and retired to the Silverdale/Standifer Gap area. She was very active in East Brainerd Baptist Church and played the organ until she was 92 and enjoyed her friends in the Sunshine Club. Her love for the piano began when as a young girl she would pretend the window sill was a piano and she also walked miles for piano lessons. Her love for the piano carried on as she played for the East Star Chapter 238 also. She loved to do crafts, crochet, knit and was a wonderful cook and had her recipe published in Southern Living magazine for her delicious "Banana Bread" baked in a coffee can and was active in the Homemakers Family and Community Education (FCE).She is survived by son, Kenneth L. Carden and his wife, Russie Lynn, of Ten Mile, Tenn.; and grandchildren, Debbie Dolan Oliver, Kevin Dolan, Charles W. Carden III, Steven Dolan, Cherryl Carden Baliles; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.Special friends, Jeanie and Thomas Hair shared many memories. Jeanie and Clemmie their devout faith, played the piano together, enjoyed shopping and playing Yatzee. Jeanie was her wonderful companion for many years and they called each other "The best friend I ever had".Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Rev. Fate Thomas officiating.Interment will be in Parkers Gap Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. before the service.
