ROSSVILLE Joseph Franklyn Akridge, 92, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 5, 2013. A longtime resident of Rossville, Ga., he served in the U.S. army during WWII and spent his adult career as a salesman, retiring from Walter A. Wood Supply Company. Growing up, Frank along with his brothers, Claude and Tom, were referred to by the press as the "Great Akridges" for their success in boxing. Frank was the 1941 Golden Glove Champion in the open division. He loved the Lord and served him as a Sunday school teacher for over sixty years at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church. Currently, his church membership was with Ft. Oglethorpe United Methodist Church. He was a devoted family man and an upstanding example of a loving husband and father. Frank loved life and was known for his infectious laugh and practical jokes. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lynn Akridge Fuson; brothers, Claude and Tom Akridge; and parents, Claude N. and Nettie Akridge. Survivors include his devoted and loving wife of sixty-six years, Sara Baker Akridge; sons Joey (Joy) Akridge, of Ringgold; Randy (Vickie) Akridge, of Hixson; eight grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
