Lynn Baxter

Lynn Jackson (Jack) Baxter, 93, widower of Nancy Doan Baxter, died Friday July 5, 2013 at the Hospice Care Center at St. Joseph Hospital. He was born to the late Cad and Addie Lee Baxter on Feb. 12, 1920 in Birmingham, Ala. Jack graduated from Auburn with a degree in electrical engineering and joined TVA in 1942 as a junior electrical engineer. His employment with TVA was interrupted by a stint in the US Navy during WWII. He was stationed at Oak Ridge and worked on the Manhattan Project splitting the atom before serving a year on the battleship USS California as a lieutenant, junior grade. After more than 30 years with TVA in various positions, he retired in 1975 as area construction manager for the Power Construction Division. Jack was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and the Trinity/Cokesbury Sunday School Class. He was a Mason for over 60 years and a member of Scottish Rite. Jack was a lifelong animal lover and always had a soft spot for any animal in need. He was a train buff and enjoyed operating his elaborate model train layout.His two brothers, Charles and Bob preceded him in death. Jack is survived by his daughter, Diane (Charles) Busby, Lexington; and two adored granddaughters, Lynn (Kyle) McMullin, Hampton, Virginia and Kelli (Scott) Simpson, Cincinnati, Oh.; Also a niece, Ann (Fred) Gilbert, Newnan, Georgia; and two great nephews, Robert (Nora) Gilbert, Mobile, Ala., and Patrick (Amy) Gilbert, Newnan, Ga.; and three great great-nieces and a great great-nephew. Through marriage his in-laws, Bill and Janice Doan, Cynthiana, Ky.; niece Karen (Mike) Gunther; and two great nephews, Brett and Will Gunther all of Parker, Colo.; and two great nieces, Lauren and Sara Doan, of Little Rock, Ark.; His dear cat Nala also survives.Special thanks to Tom Grieb, Marcia Callihan, Bob Pate and Shirley Wallace and the Trinity/Cokesbury class for their love and support during Jack's illness.
