Billings Jones

CHICKAMAUGA Rev. Billings F. "Sonny" Jones, 69, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2013, in a local hospital.He was born and raised in Chickamauga.He was educated in the Walker County school system. He was an instructor in the DeKalb County school system in Georgia. He was a member of and served as an associate pastor of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He is also a veteran of the U.S. Army.He was preceded in death by his father, Billings L. Jones; and daughter, Keisha R. Jones.Survivors include his sons, Christopher Jones, Billings F. Jones III, Monte Jones; grandchild, Amari Ball; mother, Isabell Jones; siblings, John A. (Gayle) Jones, Sandra (Roy) Drake; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and other family and friends.Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, in the Chapel; wake today from 6-7 p.m.; Interment will be in National Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Donald White and Rev. Dr. Willie Womble.The body will lie in state after noon today at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
