Nellie Workman Lewis, 86, passed peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Chautauqua Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in DeFuniak Springs, Fla.Momma was born in Chattanooga, married Samuel Lewis at the very young age of 14. Daddy did not like Mommas name of "Nellie Pearl" so he nicknamed her "Sue". They had three sons, Robert, Alan and Bruce; and a daughter, Carolynn. Our parents lived in East Ridge, until health issues forced them to move closer to family in DeFuniak Springs. Momma had two green thumbs, creating a beautiful yard admired by all her neighbors in East Ridge. With some success she was determined to make all the plants which grew in Tennessee grow in Floridas sandy soil. Momma was a master cake baker and seamstress. She made special occasion Wilton cakes for her children and grandchildren to enjoy. She worked with Holcomb Nursery in East Ridge, for many years. Reading her Bible, listening to her recorded Bible and prayer was a very important part of her life.Momma was preceded in death by our father, Samuel Lewis; her mother, Martha Workman; parents Samuel and Eva Workman and two brothers, Stanley and Herbert. Her youngest son, Bruce R. Lewis of Massachusetts passed away on July 19, 2013.Momma is survived by her two brothers, Herman Workman, Lubbock, Texas and Bill Workman, Chattanooga; daughter Carolynn Jones, DeFuniak Springs, Fla.; sons Robert Lewis Dothan, Ala., Alan Lewis, Idaho Falls, Idaho. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.Our thanks and gratitude to the staff of CRNC for the loving care given to Momma and for the tears you shed during her final days.
