Jere McCraw

BRIDGEPORT Jere Walker McCraw, 57, died Friday, June 14, 2013, on his farm.Jere was the son of the late John Joseph and Saphronia Myrtle Gardner McCraw born Dec. 17, 1955 in Bridgeport. Jere was a Bridgeport High School graduate class of 1974 and a graduate of University of Chattanooga. He taught history for 33 years at Bridgeport High School and currently at Bridgeport Middle School. He also was head football coach for 30 years and assistant coach for three years. Mr. McCraw was a member of Bridgeport Methodist Church, Jackson Co. Democratic Committee, National Education Association, Alabama Education Association and Jackson County Education Association. He was a founding member of the Siege of Bridgeport Civil War Reenactment enjoyed by many each year.Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mae Gardner.Survivors include his brother, JoJohn (Gayle) McCraw; niece, Haley McCraw; cousins, Rudder Williams, Brian Williams, Mike Denton and Richard Denton.Funeral Service will be Monday June 17, at 2 p.m. CDT at the Bridgeport Middle School Auditorium officiated by the Rev. Josh Myers and the Rev.
