RINGGOLD Matthew Mason Sertel, 31, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2013, after a brief illness.Left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter, Madison Grace Sertel; and her mother Sandy Phillips; mother, Denie (Ernie) Pursley; father, John (Margaret) Sertel; and brothers, John (Tiffani) Sertel Jr., of Austin, Texas, David (Mary) Pursley and Sandy (Jamie) Pursley, of Ringgold; and sisters, Wendy Sertel, of Couldland, Ga., and Anne Marie (David) Peace, of Chattanooga; grandmothers, Nadine Pursley and Dorothy Richey Sertel; uncle, David (Jean) Smith, of Cleveland.Matthew had a great love of sports and was an avid Tennessee Vols and Atlanta Braves fan. He was a "walking sports statistician" who frequently received calls from family and friends to answer trivia questions. Watching classics like Batman, Hulk, Spiderman, and Ninja Turtles with Madison was his most prized pastime. He was previous employed at OCharleys.The family will receive friends at Boynton Baptist Church located at 4093 Boynton Drive in Ringgold, GA 30736, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Monday, June 17, with a memorial service following.The family request that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to a trust fund set up for his beloved daughter Madison Grace Sertel.Those can be sent to Ameriprise Financial, 1573 N.
