Viola Byrd

Viola M. "Vi" Byrd, 86, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2013.She was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga and North Georgia area and retired from the Electric Power Board of Chattanooga. Mrs. Byrd loved animals, enjoyed meeting people, crocheting, sewing and working with flowers.She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Carl W. "Woody" Byrd; parents, Frank and Martha Williams; brother, Ludy Williams; sisters, Eva Ann Byrd, Marietta Hartline, Avis Irene Williams Denton, Annie Massey and Frankie Starnes.She is survived by her son, Terry Alan (Brenda) Byrd, of Ft. Oglethorpe; daughter, Karen Byrd (Terry) Moore, of Ringgold; grandsons, Justin Wayne Moore, Joshua Alan Moore, both of Ringgold; granddaughters, Shelly Byrd (Danny) Fow, of Ringgold and Tara Byrd (Kenneth) Wolf, of Chattanooga; stepgrandson, Casey Riden, of Fort Oglethorpe; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the South Crest Chapel with Pastor Bob Henson officiating.Burial will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery.To share expressions of sympathy, visit her online guestbook at lane-southcrestchapel.com.The family will receive friends from 2-6 p.m. today at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home & Crematory, located at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
