Margaret Swope

Margaret Elizabeth Brady Swope, 86, of Red Bank, passed peacefully to her rest on Wednesday, June 26, 2013.Mrs. Swope was born in Dayton, Tenn., and moved with her family to Red Bank in 1942 where she graduated from Red Bank High School in 1945. She held membership and was active in Beta Sigma Phi sorority and was employed as a stenographer and typist by Trotter, Boyd and Keese Insurance in Chattanooga until 1956. In 1961, her husband Sam Swope started a business, now known as Swope Rental Company, in which she was active for many years.Mrs. Swope loved feeding her backyard birds, caring for her flowers and did much of her own gardening well into her 80's.She was a faithful member of Red Bank Baptist Church where she was active in the Children's Sunday School Ministry for over 50 years, and where she will be fondly remembered for the beautiful hats she wore each Sunday morning. She found tremendous joy in her church's music, be it orchestra, choirs, soloists and ensembles, or a piano solo. She was a strong believer in church attendance, generous giving and daily reading of God's Word.She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Samuel Newton Swope; by her parents, William Dewey Brady, Sr. and Beatrice Esma Brady, of Rhea County and Red Bank; by two sisters, Dorothy Jeane Johnson, of Waitts Lake, Washington and Carolyn Edna Ledford, of Mowbray Mountain; by three brothers, William D. Brady, Jr., Lowell F. Brady and Robert M. Brady, all of Red Bank. She has two surviving siblings, sister, Violet Bussing, of Warner Robbins, Ga., and brother, David Brady, of Hixson.Mrs. Swope is survived by daughters, Gloria and husband Richard Strout, Patricia and husband David Baker and son, Terry and his wife Betsy Swope; granddaughters, Bonnie and husband Robert Bezkor, Bethany Morris and husband Andrew Monteith; grandsons, Cam and Hal Swope; great-grandsons, Barrett and Benjamin Bezkor and Andrew Monteith, Jr.; and by many, many nieces, nephews and extended family.Memorial contributions may be made to the Music Ministry of Red Bank Baptist Church or to the Church Library.The family will receive friends at Red Bank Baptist Church on Monday, July 1, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. followed immediately by a service of worship, praise and thanksgiving with Dr. Fred Steelman officiating.
