LB Griffith

Brother L.B. Griffith, 89, passed away on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 at a local hospital.A native of Chattanooga, he was born July 5, 1923 and graduated from Howard High School.He was a long time employee of Ross Meenham Foundry, Wheland Foundry and a self-employed General Contractor. He was a member of IBPO ELKS of the world (Lodge #440) and a member of Mount Paran Missionary Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Forces and received the American Campaign Medal and the Victory Medal from WWII.He was preceded in death by his parents, James Griffith and Magnolia Armour Griffith; brother, William Height; aunt, Mattie Weems; daughters, Gloria Griffith and Vanessa Johnson.His survivors include wife, Sarah Griffith; sons, Linus Griffith Sr., of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Mark Smith, Justino Varner Sr., of Chattanooga and Jason Griffith, of Birmingham, Ala., Frank Lee Reeves; daughters, Gay Crutcher and Helen Reeves, of Chattanooga; Yvonne Walthall; 20 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many, many friends.Services will be held at noon on Monday, March 4, 2013, at Mt. Paran MBC.Interment in National Cemetery.The body will lie in state after noon today at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
