Nellie Cleveland

LOUDON Nellie Louise Hardy Cleveland, 89, "lovingly known as Mamma Nell and Nanny", took off mortality and put on immorality on Wednesday morning, Feb. 27, 2013, at Signature Care & Rehabilitation Center, Harriman following a lengthy illness.Nelliewas one of 12 children born to the late Columbus and Elizabeth Deathridge Hardy. She was a graduate of Pearl High School, Nashville. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church where she served as Sunday school teacher; program chairperson and kitchen committee until her health began to fail. Nellie was active in the Missionary Society. She served many years as a board member of the Mid-East Action Community Agency. Nellie was very active with the Loudon District Association. In addition to her parents she was preceded by her husband, Eli (Phil) Cleveland; son, Paul Jerry Batey; Grandson, Patrick "Oz" Batey; brothers. John, William, Jr. and Virgil Hardy; sisters, Mary Kate Clark, Florence Moore, Bonnie Kline, Beatrice Vaughter and Rose Sadler. She leaves to cherish her loving memory, devoted daughter-in-law, Margie Moore, Harriman; sons, Robert (Nida) Batey, Vacaville, Calif., Donald (Mary) Cleveland, Chattanooga; eight grandchildren, Yalonda and Shawn Batey, California, Tisa Batey Walker, Atlanta, Monique "Nikie" Batey, Fayettsville, Ga., Yalanda (Kerry) Collier, St. Louis, Mo, Veta Crosswhite, St. Louis, Mo., Dwight Crosswhite, Knoxville, Steven Crosswhite, Nashville.; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Geneva (Charles) Rowland, Addie Houston, Dayton, Ohio; Beulah Black, Alcoa Tenn.; sisters-in-law, Margaret and Christine Cleveland, Philadelphia, Tenn.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.The family will receive friends noon-2 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, prior to funeral services at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Loudon Funeral Home Chapel.Interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery.Arrangements by Loudon Funeral Home. wwwloudonfuneralhome.net.
