Ralph Oglesby

Sr.LaFAYETTE Ralph E. Oglesby Sr., a lifelong resident of LaFayette, died Sunday, March 3, 2013, at his home with his wife and children at his bedside.He served in the Navy during WWII and after the war Ralph ended his service career in the Air Force. Then Ralph went to worked at Barwick Mill in LaFayette where he worked for 20 years.He was preceded in death by his parents, Christopher C. Oglesby and Maggie Higgins Oglesby; brothers, Golden and Johnnie Oglesby; sister, Pauline Oglesby Thompson.Survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara A. Jarrett Oglesby; son, Ralph "J.R." Oglesby Jr.; daughter, Cynthia "Cindy" Oglesby Shields; stepchildren, Mary Jarvis, all of LaFayette, Myra Meadows, of Rome and Rick Salmon, of Rock Spring; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Oglesby also survive.Graveside service at 2 p.m. Thursday in LaFayette Cemetery; Conducted by Rev. Rickey Studdard.Pallbearers are grandchildren, Donald Jarvis Jr., Kenneth Salmon, Lancer Smith, Jason Gravitt, Isabel Shields, Sandra Ann Glover.Honorary pallbearers: Logan Jarvis and Donald Jarvis Sr.Visitation at the funeral home from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Thursday.Arrangements by Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home, LaFayette.
