Bernadette Kalaukoa-HughesBernadette K. Kalaukoa-Hughes, 62, of Chattanooga, passed on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, in a local hospital.She was born to and preceded by death by parents, John Kalaukoa and Elizabeth Kane La on Jan. 24, 1951 in Nanakuli, Hawaii.She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunty, sister-in-law and friend to many. She was indeed a hard worker and a jack of all trades who retired from Life Touch in 2005.She was preceded in death by five sisters and six brothers.She leaves behind her husband, James Edward Hughes; one brother, Andrew Kalaukoa; three sisters, Maxine Avilla, Veda Burroughs, Oma Nora Taylor, all of Hawaii.Her legacy will be remembered and cherished by her three children, Williejay and Samuel (Anitra) Kalaukoa, Nicole (Larry) Erskine; nine grandchildren, Vincent, William, Demores (Ty) Bailee, Jaikaiyah, Ikaika Mekhi, Christian, JaiQuez and Aolani; a host of nieces and nephews.The family wishes to express their appreciation to the doctors and staff of Avalon Hospice for their kindness and compassion.A memorial service will be held from 3 until 5 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, in the funeral home chapel.Arrangements entrusted to Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services Franklin-Strickland-Pinkard-Bryan-Smith Funeral Directors, 1724 McCallie Ave., 423-265-4414.
