Jere Ballentine

DAYTON Jere Ballentine, 86, died Monday, March 25, 2013, at his home.He was born Jan. 27, 1927, in Birmingham, Ala., to the late John Burnett and Ethel MacPherson Ballentine. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Casey Jones Ballentine; and sister, Nelle Ballentine Beazley.Jere was a veteran of WWII. He was employed by TVA for 36 years, advancing from laborer to power plant superintendent. Jere was a member of Swan Pond United Methodist Church in Roane County.He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jane Jones Ballentine, of Dayton; a daughter, Amy Ballentine, of Dayton; one son, Jeff (Luanne) Ballentine, of Ooltewah; two granddaughters, Emily Suddath Ballentine and Mattie Kay Ballentine, both of Ooltewah.Funeral services for Jere will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Dayton, at 4 p.m. on Saturday with Rev. Ken Pierce officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the church from 2 to 4 p.m.His body was donated for medical research.In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Childrens Hospital at Erlanger Cancer Center, 423-778-6600.
