JASPER William A. "Red" Grider, 78, passed away, Friday, March 29, 2013.Red was a former deacon at First Baptist Church of Jasper and a veteran of the US Navy, After his retirement from DuPont, he became an avid gardener and a valued volunteer at the Marion County Food Bank. He also enjoyed wood working and golfing.The son of the late Berry and Callie Hunter Grider, he was born in Bridgeport, Ala. Aug. 17, 1934. His brother, Argel Grider and two sisters, Faye Ridley and Ethel Thomas also preceded him in death.Mr. Grider is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy Minter Grider; two sons, Tracy Grider and wife Lori and Roger Grider, all of Jasper, Tenn.; two brothers, Harold Grider, of Bridgeport, Ala. and Charles Grider, of Bryant, Ala.; and three grandchildren, Tyler Smith and Grayson and Barrett Grider and several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be conducted from the Jasper First Baptist Church at 1 p.m. CDT, on Monday, April 1, with Bro. David Grisham and Bro. Barry Grider officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 11 a.m. CDT until time of the service.Interment will follow in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
