James Ownbey

James M. Ownbey, 79, a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, May 1, 2013.He was the son of the late Charles and Mary Ownbey. He graduated from Central High School in 1953. Mr. Ownbey was an engineer having worked for American Lava, General Electric, 3-M and he retired from Coors Teck. He served as a deacon at Ridgedale Baptist Church and was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. He enjoyed serving with the Hamilton County Baptist Association Mission at St. Elmo. Jim was a past president of the Dalewood Lakeside Lions Club.Survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Jeanette Ownbey, of Chattanooga; daughter, Karen Ownbey (Edward) Pelham, of Chattanooga; grandson, Bradley Edward Pelham, of Chattanooga; two sisters, Katherine (Dillard) Edgemon, of Ooltewah, and Judith Ann (Ken) Latham, of Ooltewah; several nieces and nephews.A Celebration of Life service will be held at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Williams officiating.
