John Ling

Jr.John Englehardt Ling Jr., 91, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2013.He was born Oct. 24, 1921 in Chattanooga. He attended Missionary Ridge Grammar School and graduated from Baylor School. He graduated from the University of Chattanooga, where he was elected "Joe College" of Chattanooga, and a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He served in the U.S Army in Combat Engineers during WWII serving in Germany and France and fought at the Battle of the Bulge. He was a long time member of Chattanooga Golf and Country Club and member of First Baptist Church for over 63 years where he served as Deacon and a member of the Seekers Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the Masons and past Lt. Governor of the Kiwanis. His hobbies were playing golf and his family. He was a volunteer for Blood Assurance and the Community Kitchen, and was the owner of Ling Furniture and co-owner of Rossville Furniture.He was preceded in death by his parents, John Englehardt Ling, Sr. and Jessie Price Ling; and his first wife, Mary Martha Emerick Ling.Survivors include his wife, Tillie M. Ling; daughter, Martha Ling Jones; son, James Emerick Ling; grandsons, Christopher Randall (Amy) Jones, Bryan Fuller (Melanie) Jones; great-grandchildren, Jonathan Christopher Jones, Lucian Eliot Jones, Makenna Louise Jaso and Sophia Elizabeth Blazakis.Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 11, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Thomas Quisenberry and the Rev.
