Loraine Cox
Loraine Madeleine Cox, 68 years young, passed away in her Chattanooga home, Wednesday, April 24, 2013. Born March 1st, 1945, in San Diego, Calif., Lori was the eldest child of Robert and Rene Godwin.Despite an ever growing list of health problems burdening both of her body and mind, Lori never allowed these trials to uproot the fundamental strengths in her life her faith in God and an inexhaustible love that she showered upon those dear to her at every opportunity. At the same time, she could rarely resist striking up strangers in conversation, often on occasions when she had every reason to suffer in silent self-pity. No doubt, a handful of readers, if not many more, would remember her good-natured inquiries while waiting in doctors offices or while sharing a bus ride. She never saw a pretty purse, pair of earrings, or bouncing grandchild she didnt feel worthy of an earnest compliment. Although she didn't leave her name in history books or a bank account with millions, Lori left the hearts of those who knew her overflowing with something far more precious. Their inheritance will be an everlasting collection of memories the tender conviction of her poetry, the warmth of her smile, the infectiousness of her laughter, the shared ache in her voice in times of consolation, the grace of her handwriting, the savor of her famous tacos, the enduring lessons of health, cleanliness, and self-respect she seared into the habits of her children, and above all, the safety of an embrace that often felt as if would never end, and with which, even now, though physically absent, she is, by this rich legacy, wrapping around her love ones in their time of grief.Lori was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Martin Godwin and her adoring grandson, Shaun Humphries.Carrying on her absence are her three children, Martin (Karen) Cox, Sheila Humphries and Brian Cox; sister, Cheri (Steve) Green; granddaughter, Brittany (Jessy) Thompson and three great-grandchildren.The memorial service will be Sunday, May 19, at 4 p.m. at Hamilton Community Church, where Lori had been a longtime member, followed by a private gravesite ceremony.Send condolences at www.CovenantFuneral.com.Arrangements are by Covenant Funeral & Crematory, Crox family owned and operated.
