Estelle Cannon

Lera Estelle Cannon, 97, entered the presence of her Lord on Thursday, May 16, 2013.She was born in Dyer, Tenn., on April 11, 1916, to Henry and Verna Horner Halliburton.After high school, Estelle attended college at Union University in Jackson, Tenn. She graduated with a bachelors degree in education and taught grades one through twelve in a one-room schoolhouse in the area.Estelle and her husband, Dr. George M. Cannon, were married on Sept. 27, 1953. They adopted a daughter, Sandra, in 1960. The family joined Signal Mountain Baptist Church in 1965. They were active and faithful members and used their time, talents, and means to further the cause of Christ.In addition to serving as a Sunday School teacher, Mrs. Cannon was an accomplished pianist and used that talent to make beautiful music for the children of the church. When the church needed new hand bells and a van to transport members, she and her husband did not hesitate to make that need a reality. An elaborate pipe organ was built and donated by the Cannons for use in the Christian Life Center.Music was just one of Estelles talents. She had a great love of oil painting, ceramics, and needlepoint, and she used her creativity to produce many beautiful pieces. Her generous, loving spirit will be greatly missed by the family and all who knew her.She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; her brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Evelyn Halliburton; and her sister, Frances McCallum.Mrs. Cannon is survived by her daughter, Sandra Cannon, of Red Bank; grandson, Robert Crawford, Atlanta; grandchildren, Alexandrea C. Crawford and Ryan C. Crawford; and a niece, Jessica Anderson.The family would like to thank the staff at Alexian Healthcare Center, especially Frank and Callie, who gave her compassionate, personal attention.The family will receive friends from noon to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2013, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.Funeral services for Mrs. Cannon will be held on the same day at 2:30 p.m. in funeral chapel, with Rev.
