Lewis Doggett

Lewis Carpenter Doggett, 85, of Highlands, N.C., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013. Born in Atlanta, he was the son of the late Lewis Carpenter and Mary Adeline Elliott Doggett. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean conflict. He was an executive in the textile industry. He was Phi Beta Kappa at Duke University and graduated Summa Cum Laude. He served on the board of The Martin Lipscomb Performing Arts Center, The Bascomb Art Gallery, Center for Life Enrichment, Highlands Town Planning Board, The Highlands Historical Society and The Jackson/Macon Conservation Alliance. He was a vestryman and senior warden of the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation where he was a member. Mr. Doggett is survived by his wife of 62 years, Anne Patrick Major Doggett; three daughters, Mary Elliott Doggett Williams and husband, Robert "R.L.", of Lookout Mountain, Tenn., Alynder Patrick Doggett, of Greenville, S.C., Frances Major Doggett Mulkin and husband, Joel White, of Birmingham, Ala.; three sons, Dr. Lewis Carpenter Doggett III and wife, Cathy Allen, of Jacksonville, Ala., Benjamin Tanner Doggett and wife, Lisa Bailey Doggett, of Suwanee, Ga., and John Patrick Doggett and wife, Elizabeth Hamilton, of Charlotte, N.C.; 11 grandchildren, Tyler Jane Mulkin, Joel White Mulkin Jr, James Elliott Mulkin, Lindsay Anne Doggett, Lewis Carpenter Doggett IV, Allender Sullivan Duhe Doggett, Ethan McGregor Doggett, Riley Sullivan Doggett, Cooper Reeves Doggett, John Cabell Doggett and Emma Sullivan Doggett. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lucia Sullivan Doggett. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Episcopal Church of Incarnation in Highlands, N.C., with Father Bruce Walker officiating. Burial will be at Highlands Memorial Park.
