Herschel Highsmith

Herschel "Papaw Corky" Highsmith, 80, of Algood, Tenn., passed away suddenly on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013. Herschel previously lived in Chattanooga and Nashville. He was a great and loving husband, father and grandfather. He served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper for two years, worked at Combustion Engineering for 10 years and Fluor Daniel for almost 25 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Herschel Sory Highsmith Sr. and Gladys Bell Highsmith. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Carol Highsmith; five children, Kentt (Diane) Highsmith, Karenn (Morgan) Hall, Keith (Tammie) Highsmith, Kevin (Tammi) Highsmith, Kandy (Jeff) Jones, all from the Chattanooga area; two stepdaughters, Sharon (Scott) Vaughn and Lisa Wilkerson, both from Cookeville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; two stepgranddaughters, and one great-grandson. Visitation will be held at Kevins home at 8225 Smith Road, Georgetown, Tenn., from1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9. A private celebration of his life will follow at 3 p.m.
