Wayne Goodwill

Wayne J. Goodwill, 82, a longtime resident of Cleveland, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday morning, Nov. 3, 2013. Wayne was born in Union City, Pa., on Feb. 12, 1931 a son of the late Carl William and Gertrude Louise Goodwill. Wayne lived in North East, Pa., until relocating his family to Cleveland in 1972. Wayne worked and retired from the Bowater Southern Paper Corporation. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cleveland. Wayne was an ordained deacon and Sunday School teacher as well as an member of the Gideons International. He was also a member of the Cleveland Emmaus Community and enjoyed volunteering at the Tennessee Aquarium. Wayne was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army having faithfully served his country during the Korean War. Above all he will be remembered for being a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Wayne was a very Godly man who will be missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Jean Montgomery Goodwill; and two brothers, Eugene Goodwill and Charles Goodwill. Wayne leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of twelve years, Mary Arnold Goodwill; five daughters, Debbie (Mervin) Ownby, Laurie (Marty) McGee, of Ringgold, Ga., Brenda (Stacy) Campbell, of Brunswick, Ga., Kristen (Jack) Duncan, of Cookeville, Tenn., and Janelle (Dana) Martin; one son David (Angie) Goodwill; and one stepson, Greg (Penny) Arnold, of Bristow, Va. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Florence Croscut, of North East, Pa., Eva (Richard) Martin, of Largo, Fla. and Winnie Walter, of Canada; one brother, William (Shirley) Goodwill; and one brother-in-law David (Marge) Montgomery, both of North East, Pa.; also, numerous other extended family members, church family and a host of special friends. A celebration of his life planned for 7 p.m. today, Nov. 6, 2013, at the First Baptist Church located 1275 Stuart Road NE in Cleveland, Tenn. with Pastor Steve Morgan and the Rev. Bert Jones officiating. The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church from 3 until the 7 p.m. service time today. The family will hold a private interment on Thursday in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial be made in Waynes memory to the Gideons International.
