Edward "Bro" Gladden, 83, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, in a local hospital. He served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service and retired after 27 years of service. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Cora Gladden, Dorothy Tazewell, Idella McGill, and Leonia Landmon; and brother, Lonnie Gladden. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Bertha Jo Gladden; 10 children, Gregory Gladden, of San Diego, Calif., Derrick Gladden, Felicia (Leonard) Moss, Ronald Gladden, Stephanie (Gary) Smedley, Allen (Dee) Gladden, Tammy (Darnell) Griggs, James (Kathryn) Gladden, Berlin Gladden all of Chattanooga, and Beverly (Eric) Hitchcock, of Los Angeles, Calif.; two sisters, Mary Lacey Jones and Almeta Jackson; 26 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Olivet Baptist Church with Pastor Kevin L. Adams Sr. as the eulogist. Burial: Chattanooga National Cemetery. The body will lie-in-state after 12:30 p.m. today at Taylor Funeral Home.
