Vera Dickert

Vera White Dickert, 85, passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at Claire Bridge Assisted Living in Asheville, N.C. A native of Lakeview, Ga., she was daughter of the late Lewis Milton and Eula Mae Chapman White. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Ray Dickert, and sisters, Joy Doss, Louise Foster and Anita Germann. Born in Chattanooga, she grew up in north Georgia until she and her husband moved to McDonald, Tenn., where she raised her children and wrangled chickens professionally. She was a longtime member, church officer and choir member at Ooltewah UMC. After the death of her husband in 1999, she returned to live in Rossville, and attended the church of her youth Newnan Springs UMC. She was also a dedicated worker, helping with the Rossville Food Ministries. Vera graduated as the valedictorian of her class at Lakeview High School and worked after school at Obie-Andrews until moving to McDonald. She is best remembered for her dedication to everything she did in life and having a heart of service and love which she passed on to her children. Mrs. Dickert is survived by her son, Wayne Dickert and his wife, Joanna Foster. of Bryson City, N.C.; daughter, Carol Tyrer and her husband, David, of Williamsburg, Va.; and grandson Troy Tyrer. Per Mrs. Dickerts wishes, her body has been donated to the medical department of the University of Tennessee. She also requested no memorial service and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Newnan Springs UMC, 78 Monanaw Ave., Rossville, GA 30714.
