Gennell Woods McDuffy, 73, of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully in her home with family on Friday, Nov. 8, 2013. She was born in Anniston, Ala., on Oct. 5, 1940, to the late Cecil Woods and Everlena Blanks. After living her younger years in Knoxville, where she attended Austin East High School, she then relocated to Chattanooga. She retired after 25 years of service from Chattanooga Public School System. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was a woman of strength, character, wisdom and love. She was preceded in death by her parents; son Timothy Bledsoe; brothers, Cecil Woods, T.L. Woods; sister, Lena Bailey; and grandson, DeMonte Bledsoe. She leaves to cherish her memory husband of 27 years, Lawrence McDuffy; sons, Gary J. Little, Darrell Howell; daughter, Barbara (Gwen) Rittenbery, Flora Little, Lisa (Wadie) Suttles and Tammy (Brent) Edwards, of Knoxville; brothers, Bobby Lee Woods, of Chattanooga and Kevin, Tommy, Richard and Curtis Woods, all of Knoxville; sisters, Ruthie Carlile, Frances (Perry) Hollingsworth, Nonie Sturdivant and Gladys White; and a special stepmother, Betty (George) Woods Winton, of Knoxville; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Trammell Chapel, 913 ML King Blvd., with the Rev. Barbara Sanderfur officiating. Interment National Cemetery.
