Rachel Vincent

Rachel Vincent Rachel Farr Vincent, retired elementary educator, passed away on Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. Rachel was born Feb. 25, 1935 in Chattanooga. She graduated from City High School class of 1954 and the University of Chattanooga. Rachel was a former Delta airline stewardess in her early 20s and a retired elementary teacher with the Chattanooga City School System. She has fondly continued to maintain many special relationships with former students and her City High classmates. She was a member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church. For many years, Rachel and her husband Jack helped Sunday school children offer a Seedling Sunday program to the congregation. Many of these trees bear their fruit today. Rachel greatly enjoyed life and had a delightful sense of humor, especially pranking her family. She cherished spending time with her family and friends at their property on the Hiwassee River in Meigs County. She enjoyed playing bridge and the dulcimer with a large group of friends she considered her extended family. She and her husband are active members of the Chattanooga Sail and Power Squadron and hosted an annual fish fry enjoyed by many. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Roy and Ada Morgan Farr; infant sister, Ruth Marie Farr; and brothers, E.A, Frank, Marvin and Joe Farr, all from Chattanooga as well as most of her closest life-long friends. Rachel is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Jack D. Vincent; they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 7; daughter, Dr. Nancy Vincent Watts, and her adored grandson, John Morgan Watts, all of Chattanooga; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. A small graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. today, Nov. 13, at Greenwood Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. this Friday from for a Celebration of Life Ceremony at St. Pauls Episcopal Church located on Pine Street.
