Margaret Hargis

Margaret Joyce Hargis, 79, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga. She was retired from the Grundy County School System after 39 years of service being a teacher, principal and worked in the central office as a supervisor. She was a member of Palmer United Methodist Church. She was a member and Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 266 Tracy City, Tenn. She was born in Palmer on Feb. 12, 1934, to Henry A. and Oda James Roberts who preceded her in death along with her daughter, Drema Darlene Reed; grandson, Brady McCullough; brothers, James and Dillard Roberts; sisters, Agnes Coffelt, Kathleen Jones and Mara Lee Caldwell. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 57 years, Clayton Hargis; son, Doug (Carolyn) Hargis; daughters, Clayta Cleek and Kathy (Larry) Meeks; sisters, Nancy (Earl) Rigsby and Mary Lou Creighton; grandchildren, Coy Hargis, Kayla (Ric) Anderson and Jordan McCullough; step-grandchildren, Jared (Rachel) Meeks, Aaron (Adrienne) Meeks, Cain (Jan) and Caleb Cleek; several stepgreat-grandchildren; a host of loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. CDT Saturday in the funeral Home chapel with Ministers John Kennedy and John Potts officiating with burial to follow in Fall Creek Cemetery. Visitation: 5-10 p.m. CDT today, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. CDT Friday at Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, Tenn.
