Rosemary Hoenig

Rosemary Hoenig, 89, has passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, to join her beloved Lawrence "Larry" in heaven. Rosie, as her family and friends liked to call her, was born in Baraboo, Wis. She adored her father and fondly remembered being allowed to go for car rides with him, on his duties as the Mayor of Baraboo. Rosie was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she and Larry first laid eyes on each other. After Larrys service to our country, they married and initially settled in Milwaukee. They moved to Chattanooga in 1963, where they thrived as a family. Rosie enjoyed her work as an administrative assistant to Dr. Glenn Draper at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga, and the Chattanooga Singers. Through this work, she gained many friends over the years, both young and adults. Although she herself preferred to dance, she thoroughly enjoyed but delegated the singing and music-making to the rest of her family. The entire family was for many years involved with the activities of the Chattanooga Boys Choir. In 1974, Rosie and Larry together received the Downtown Sertoma Club Service to Mankind Award, the third such award in the history of the club for volunteer work and influencing young men. For many years, they were also active participants at the Chapel on the Lake. In addition to being a loyal companion and a caring mother, Rosie enjoyed playing bridge, both electronically and with her many bridge partners. She was also an avid reader of suspense novels and crime stories. When an opportunity arose, she passionately rooted for Tony Stewart and the NASCAR drivers. She is survived by her two sons, Dr. Gary Hoenig, (Dr. Pia Hoenig), Santa Rosa, Calif., and Dr. Scott Hoenig, Johannesburg, South Africa. There will be no visitation. A private graveside service will be held for family members at Chattanooga National Cemetery, with Rev. Clay Thomas officiating. A celebration of Rosie and Larrys life will be taking place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are welcome to the Allied Arts Foundation, Chattanooga.
