Gene Ownbey

Earl Eugene "Gene" Ownbey, 80, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013. He was the son of the late Early and Laura Ownbey and was preceded in death by his two brothers. He was a 1950 graduate of Tyner High School. Gene retired from Vulcan Materials after 36 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of Morris Hill Baptist Church. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Shirley Ownbey; two daughters, Denise (Bobby) Holder, Kim (Dee) Posey; son, Brian Ownbey; three grandchildren, Rachelle (Anthony) Creamer, Eric (Michal) Gailer, Brian Ownbey Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Aaron Creamer, Chase Creamer, Hannah Ownbey; sister, Rebecca McAllister; and two nephews, Barry and Perry McAllister. Graveside services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Perry McAllister, Bill Mason, Bill Lehmkuhl and John Ledford officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, Chattanooga.
