Nellie Griffith

Nellie L. "Nell" Griffith, 92, of Red Bank, went home to be with the Lord peacefully at her home on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, with her family by her side. She was a member of Calvary Bible Church. Nellie was born and raised in Calhoun, Ga., and later moved to Chattanooga where she met and married her sweet and devoted husband in 1946. She loved her job as a homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was her life. She had the patience of "Job" and was a very sweet and loving person. She will be sorely missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford M. Long Sr. and Annie Rose Long; and her brother, Clifford M. Long Jr.; as well as two infant siblings, Ralph and Winnie Long. She is survived by her dedicated and devoted husband of 67 years, Hershel W. Griffith; and her daughters, Jan McCrary and Laura (Barry) Littlejohn. She is also survived by her grandson, Clint Littlejohn; and granddaughters, Megan McCrary and Ginny Littlejohn (Will) Holcomb, all of Red Bank. A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at Calvary Bible Church on Mountain Creek Road with the Rev. Bill Henry officiating. The family will gather with friends from 3 p.m. on Monday until the hour of the service at the church. A private burial will be held in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
