Wayne Gordon Early, 92, of Hixson, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013. He was of the Baptist faith. Wayne was born in Chattanooga on Feb. 15, 1921, and the son of the late Charlie and Grizzie Early. He was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran, serving his country during World War II in the Pacific. He was a 1939 graduate of Central High School. Wayne worked for the Krystal after the war, then went on to work for and retire from Western Union in Chattanooga and Allentown, Pa., with more than 30 years of service. He was preceded in death, along with his parents, by his brother, Kenneth Early; his loving aunt, Ella Mae and uncle Wheeler who helped raise him and his brothers after the death of their mother; and his precious daughter, Rena Early Harvey; and his son-in-law, Terry Harvey. Survivors include his wife of almost 67 years, Naomi Landreth Early; sons, Jerry (Brenda) Redden, of Soddy-Daisy, Larry (Angie) Early, of Sale Creek and Michael (Diane) Early, of Soddy-Daisy; brother, Bill (Ruth) Early, six grandchildren, Erik Redden, Aaron Redden, Jennifer Redden Hickman, Andy Harvey, Mark Harvey and Matthew Early; and 10 great-grandchildren. Wayne was a most devoted husband and father who loved his wife and children very much. He will be missed by all who knew him. Services will be held on at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, in the funeral home chapel with Brother David McNabb and Brother Mike Combs Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Poe Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. We thank the nurses and CNAs at the Soddy-Daisy Health Care Center, Hospice of Chattanooga and the nurses and staff at Memorial of Hixson for their loving care and support to the family during these last months.
