James Richey

James Hamilton Richey Jr., 90, widower of Cornelia Robinson Floyd Richey, of Emerald Gardens and formerly of Augusta, Ga., died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood, S.C. Mr. Richey, a native of Chattanooga, lived in Augusta, Ga., from 1951-2011. He was retired from the Signal School, Fort Gordon, Ga., as Chief Instructor, Avionics Department. He was a veteran of World War II serving in North Africa, Italy, France, Austria and Germany and received four battle stars and one arrow head for the invasion of France. He was an original organizer and former president of Concerned Citizens for Fair Taxation. He was a member of Pine View Baptist Church and a former member, deacon, chairman of the finance committee and former administrative assistant of Baker Woods Baptist Church and former member, deacon and Chairman of the Finance Committee of Crawford Avenue Baptist Church. Survivors include his son, Ernest Hamilton (Barbara), Richey, Greenwood, S.C.; a stepson, John Randal (Vicki) Floyd, Martinez, Ga.; a grandson, Jonathan H. Richey; two granddaughters, Kimberly I. Richey (Alex Filler) and Lydia J. Richey; five step-granddaughters, Lisa Floyd, Michelle Ennis, Pamela Duncan, Mary Rylander and Laura Hamilton; and several cousins. Mr. Richey was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jean Adams Richey. Funeral service was at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17, at Platts Crawford Avenue Chapel, 721 Crawford Ave., Augusta, GA 30904, with Dr. Charles L. "Chuck" Moates officiating. Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 23, 2013, at Greenwood Cemetery, Chattanooga, with Dr. Charles L. "Chuck" Moates officiating. The family will receive friends at the Chattanooga Funeral Home, East Chapel, 404 S. Moore Road, from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Honorary pallbearers will be Elwood Lawrence, Lewis Templeton, Eddie Ralston, C.L Moates, Doug Templeton, Sid Adams, Seth Adams and Jake White.
