Tom Martin

Tom M. Martin, 83, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013.He was the beloved husband of Nancy Taylor Martin for 52 years.Tom was active in the churches he attended and received an award for the work he did with The Boy Scouts of America while his sons were scouts. He also enjoyed mission work and helping at the church after his retirement.He worked in sales for years. He was a Colonial bread man, worked for Hostess Cakes, Murray Cookie Co., and Reese Distributing before going on to own and run Martin Distributing Co. with his wife. He finally retired (again) from working in Food Lion stores for Acosta at the age of 75.Tom was one of the most honorable and faithful men around. He grew up in Highland Park during The Great Depression and has always put working to take care of his family as a priority, second only to serving Jesus.He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kemberly Martin Tate; his father and mother, Thomas Martin and Lillian Plummer Martin; as well as two brothers and two sisters.Survivors include his wife, Nancy; daughter, Amy Katherine Martin, of Chattanooga; two sons, Thomas McCallie Martin III (Margie), of Spring Hill, Tenn., and Jonathan Taylor Martin (Sheryl), of Baltimore, Md.; and his grandson, Quincy Martin who is the apple of our eyes.The family would like to thank all of the nurses, CNAs and staff of Station 3 at The Bridge at South Pittsburg for their loving care of Tom and their compassion for our family in his final days.The family will receive friends at 3 p.m. before the memorial service which will be at 4 p.m. today, Oct. 11, at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace with the Rev.
