Hilda Davis

Hilda Sizer Taber Davis, 88, a lifelong resident of Lookout Mountain, Tenn., died at Alexian Health Care Center Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, after a lengthy illness.She was the daughter of the late Albert Winnie and Mary Helen "Nancy" Sizer Taber, of Lookout Mountain, and the wife of the late Edward Lee "Ted" Davis, of Fort Payne, Ala.She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Ann Taber Lucker; and brother, Philip Albert Taber; her nephew, Peter T. "Toby" Lucker.She attended Girls Preparatory School and Agnes Scott College. After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Hilda worked at the Chattanooga Times until her marriage. Having raised four children, she began teaching, initially with the Head Start program in Chattanooga, and then first grade at Lookout Mountain Elementary School. She retired after 17 years.She was a member of the Lookout Mountain Book Club for many years.Hildas kitchen door was always open and she spent many hours doing what she was best at: cooking and listening. She always had a quick smile, a ready laugh and quiet advice.She will be remembered as the driving force behind many family gatherings. She was quietly spiritual, reflective, and an avid reader.She was a wonderful mother, friend and teacher.She is survived by her children and families, Robert Albert "Rad" and wife, Ann Davis, of Foley, Ala., and their sons, Patrick and Brendan; Wendell and wife, Jodi Davis, of Lookout Mountain and their daughters, Lauchlan and Evangeline "Emma" Davis; daughter, Marie Davis Miller and husband, Richard, of Lookout Mountain, and their children, Evan, Mary Helen, and Spencer Miller; and daughter, Nancy Sizer Davis Willis and husband, Rusty of Nashville, Tenn.; and triplets, Reilly, Graham and Larkin Willis.Funeral services will be at Thankful Memorial Church at 1 p.m. on Tuesday Oct. 15, 2013, with visitation one hour prior.There will be a private family interment to follow at Forest Hills Cemetery.The family would like to thank the staff at Alexian Health Care for their years of kind, compassionate caregiving and her special friend, Amelia Hunt.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Thankful Memorial Church.Visit www.heritagefh.com to share words of comfort to the family.Arrangements by Heritage Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 7454 East Brainerd Road.
