Tommy Basinger

Tommy Allan Basinger, 65, went home to be with Jesus on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013 after battling colon cancer. He told everyone he wasnt afraid to die because he knew Jesus and knew where he was going.He was a three year Vietnam War veteran serving in the United States Army. Tommy served in the Chattanooga Police Department for 13 years and was retired from the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier after 27 years of service.He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Thomas and Frances Basinger; sisters, Lynda Basinger (Sonny) Robinson, Janet Basinger (Eddie) Byrd.Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Anita McMasters Basinger; and one sister, Bonita Basinger (Jimmy) Bryan, Chickamauga, Ga.; mother-in-law, Ethel McMasters; brother-in-law, Tommy (Melinda) McMasters; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 14, at 2:30 p.m. in the East Brainerd Chapel with the Rev. David Harr officiating. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Jason Bryan, James David Bryan, Raymond Clayton, Tim Broom, Kenny Vaughan, and Thomas Stallings serving as active pallbearers.The family will receive friends today from 4-8 p.m. and Monday from 1:30 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to The Angel Fund at Animal Medical Professionals, 5620 Main Street, Ooltewah, Tennessee 37363.Arrangements are by the East Brainerd Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 8214 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, Tennessee 37421.Please share your thoughts and memories at www.ChattanoogaEastBrainerdChapel.com.
