Charles Humble

Charles Raymond Humble, 89, of the Hickory Valley Retirement Community, Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013.A native of Valley Head, Ala., he was the son of the late Marion and Saphronia Humble and was the youngest of ten children. He was retired from TVA with 32 years of service and was a member of Silverdale Baptist Church for over 40 years. He was a Veteran of W.W.II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a Purple Heart recipient, a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He landed on the beaches of Normandy on June 10, 1944 and he re-lived that day every day for the rest of his life.He was also preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Evelyn Rogers Humble; two sons, David (Linda) Humble, Ooltewah and Ronnie (Cathy) Humble, Harrison; grandson, Rodney Humble, Chattanooga; step-granddaughter, Vickie (Ronnie) Byrd, Ooltewah; stepgreat-grandchildren, Ashlyn York and Cody Byrd; sister, Louise (Bill) Young, Pulaski, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.The family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses in MICU and 1 North at Memorial Hospital and also to the staff of Hospice of Chattanooga at Standifer Place for all of their compassion and care during this time.Private graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors with the Rev.
