Randolph Lane

Randolph P. Lane, 46, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013 in Houston, Texas.He is survived by his wife, Catherine Campbell Lane, Houston; father, Grady Lane, Lookout Mountain, Tenn.; sister, Jarand Lane, Atlanta; brother, Gray (Sherie) Lane, Signal Mountain, Tenn.; aunt, Starlet (W. Fred, Jr.) Speakman, Lookout Mountain; uncle, J. Randolph (Merrill) Light, Jr., Hilton Head Island, S.C.; and several nephews and nieces.He was preceded in death by his mother, Jarand L. Lane, and a brother, James Bryant Lane.Randy was raised and lived on Lookout Mountain, Tenn., until moving to Houston in 2012. He attended McCallie School and graduated from Chattanooga Christian High School. He earned a liberal arts degree in International Political Science from Emory and Henry College in Emory, Virginia. At Emory and Henry he was a member of the rugby and soccer teams as well as serving as a student advocate on both the judicial and academic boards of the college. He was selected by the faculty to represent the college as a delegate to the 29th annual Naval Academy Foreign Affairs Conference held at the U.S. Naval Academy.He was a member of the Hamilton County Rescue Squad, serving several years on the Cave Rescue Unit. That interest evolved in his obtaining a paramedic license and a career working in emergency medicine. Randy was an outdoor enthusiast and enjoyed rock climbing and exploring caves. He was an avid radio-control model builder and participant.Randy served his country in a number of ways including involvement with the U.S. Navy, the 20th Special Forces Group in the U.S. Army National Guard with the rank of Second Lieutenant, graduated from the U.S. Army Infantry Officers School and U.S. Army Airborne School at Ft. Benning, Georgia. He was also in the Alabama National Guard having attained the rank of Captain.Family and friends will gather on Wednesday Oct. 23, at 2 p.m. at Forest Hills Cemetery for a graveside service with Chris Ehlers officiating.
