Sr.William "Bill" Richard Neighbors Sr., 86, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at his home in Red Bank after a long battle with cancer.Bill was raised in the Chattanooga area. As a child, he delivered newpapers on his bicycle to the downtown area including on Cameron Hill. He was a member of Joe Engel's Knot Hole gang for boys. Good grades and upstanding character allowed him to leave school and go to Engel Stadium to watch baseball games. From a very young age he became involved in model airplanes and flew in national and international competitions throughout his life winning many awards. He also worked in Chattanooga and Rossville pharmacies as a teenager where he met the love of his life, Doris Shirley. Bill and Doris graduated from Central High School in Chattanooga and were married on June 23, 1945.He served in the Army Signal Corps before attending and graduating from the University of Chattanooga and The University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy in Memphis.His career as a pharmacist in the Chattanooga area at Red Bank and White Oak pharmacies as well as running his own business, Paramount Pharmacy, with his wife, Doris, in Brainerd was a joy to him. He made many dear friends everywhere he worked and felt blessed to be able to help others while performing a job he loved.He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Shirley Neighbors; and his parents, Richard Denny Neighbors and Nancy Jean Wireman Neighbors.Survivors include his sons, William Richard Neighbors Jr. (Brenda Gail) and Gary Lee Neighbors (Brenda Ann); and his daughter, Deborah Anna Neighbors (Thomas Eiseman). He was always proud of his four grandchildren and looked forward to spending time with them: William Richard Neighbors III, Dia Leigh Neighbors, Cara Marie Neighbors and Alessandra Eiseman Morton (Ian).The family will receive friends noon-2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, followed by a service at 2 p.m. at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace.Burial will be private for family only.Visit www.lanefh.com to share condolences.Arrangements by Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace, 877-3524.
