Mozella Ivory

Mozella Malone Smith Ivory, 89, passed away peacefully at her residence on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013. Born in Chattanooga, on May 16, 1924 to the late Millie Malone King, Mozella was reared in Lafayette, Ala. She later returned to Chattanooga to live with her aunt and uncle, the late Reverend Homer and Mrs. Rosa Smith, who assumed the role of her parents. She entered into Holy Matrimony on Nov. 24, 1944, to Henry Ivory and to this union one daughter was born. They remained married for 65 years until his death on July 17, 2009.Exhibiting a strong character, a faith in God, and a sense of personal responsibility, Mozella became an employee of what was then called O.B. Andrews on Sept. 18, 1944. She dedicated 42 years of her life to this company, which later became known as Container Corporation of America. She retired on June 1, 1986, stayed home, and enjoyed her family. Her deep, religious convictions were demonstrated as a devoted member of Greater Beulah Baptist Church, serving on the Senior Usher Board, which she loved.Mozella loved the outdoor life. After retirement, she spent the bulk of her day outside planting in her garden and beautifying her yard. She held memberships in the Avondale Ladies Guild and the Sunshine Garden Club for more than a decade. She even enjoyed going fishing.On the inside, CNN was on all day, so she could give a full report to her grandson and granddaughter. She thoroughly enjoyed discussing with them all the issues of the day, ranging from the weather to major catastrophes.Mozella leaves a legacy of a strong faith in the Almighty, love, dignity, and respect to her daughter, Henrietta Ivory Haslerig; her granddaughter, Dr. Gia Adina Haslerig, J.D.; and her grandson, Scott Evan Haslerig; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted extended families who cared and shared.Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Chattanooga National Cemetery, located at 1200 Bailey Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37404.Public viewing will be held today after noon and her family will receive friends from 67 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
