Norys Guerra

DULUTH Dr. Norys Guerra, 54, passed away Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013 after a very brave battle with cancer. Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the family moved to New York City when Norys was 6 months old. Besides New York, she lived in Florida, Tennessee and Georgia. Dr. Guerra was a contagious Disease Specialist and devoted herself to disease control and public safety. She had a long and distinguished career with the government, having worked for OSHA, TVA, and CDC. Above all Norys was a person of deep faith. She had a steadfast commitment to the Lord in all aspects of her life, with long membership at Atlanta West Pentecostal Church in Atlanta, George and Cornerstone Apostolic Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She is survived by her brother Freddie Guerra; uncle Luis Diaz and aunt Olga Diaz, aunt Norma Guerra, uncle Felipe and aunt Provi Guerra and many other extended family members; caregiver and sister-in-Christ Bernadette Powe. She was preceded in death by her parents Alfredo and Norys Guerra; and brother William David Guerra. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday Sept. 4, at the Cornerstone Apostolic Church, 7548 Igou Gap Road, Chattanooga with the Rev. Ronald Brown, the Rev. Darrell Johns and the Rev. Joel Austin officiating. Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Cornerstone Apostolic Church.
