RINGGOLD Ellie Christene Peters Pitts, 98, went to be with the Lord on Monday Sept. 9, 2013. She was at home surrounded by family.She departed this world as gracefully as she lived her life. She has been and forever will be a beautiful example of Gods love. Her happiness came from giving to others. She will be greatly missed and endlessly loved.She was the daughter of the late Glenn and Rachel Hayes Peters. She married James Clifton "Ocey" Pitts on Oct. 3, 1931 and was married 63 years. Together they raised Charles Alvin Pitts and Jerry Leon Pitts on the family farm in Pleasant Valley. She was a lifetime resident of Catoosa County, Ga., and a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church where she was known for her sweet potato and chocolate pies. She was also known for her loving and gentle nature which was a shining example of her Christian soul. She was a former employee of Carolyn Chenille and retired from Sweetwater Rug.She was preceded in death by her husband, Ocey Pitts; son, Jerry Pitts; grandson, Gerald Pitts; brothers, Arthur, Ira and James Peters; and sisters, Thelma Davis, Vera Davis and Edna Conaway.She is survived by her son, Alvin (Barbara) Pitts, of Ringgold; daughter-in-law, Sandra Pitts, of Ringgold; grandchildren, Kimberly (Mike) White, of Harrison, Veronica (Matt) Raper, of Dayton, Tenn., Charles Pitts Jr., Katrina (Marty) Heatherly, Michael (Susan) Pitts, Debbie (Marty) Ferren and Melina (Dan) Bender, all of Ringgold; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Lula Petty, of Ringgold; sisters-in-law, Florence Peters, of Ringgold, and Liz Pitts, of Calhoun, Ga.; several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Don Self and Rev. Mark Smith officiating.Interment will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends from 3-9 p.m. today and Thursday until funeral time at the funeral home.An online register book may be signed at www.wilsonfuneralhome.com.Arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Home, Wallis-Stewart Chapel, Ringgold.
