Nettie Hobbs

LaFAYETTE Nettie Mae Millican Hobbs, 98, passed away Monday, Sept. 9, 2013."Mae" was born on Sept. 8, 1915, in the Cedar Grove section of McLemores Cove to the late Augustus Webster and Ellen Elizabeth Massey Millican. She moved to LaFayette in 1964 where she lived the last half of her life. She was of the Christian faith and became a member of Cedar Grove Methodist Church at an early age. After moving to LaFayette, she attended LaFayette Presbyterian Church.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, H.C. Hobbs; son, J.W. Hobbs; great-granddaughter, Paige Graham; and son-in-law, G. G. Watson. Her brothers, Carl Millican, James "Bud" Millican, and Robert "Bob" Millican; and sister, Ethel Merritt, also preceded her in death. Mae is survived by her daughter, Jeanette Watson; son, Clifford (Glenda) Hobbs, daughter-in-law, Anne Hobbs; and six granddaughters, Penni Graham, Melanie Watson, Patrice (Will) Glass, Melissa (Jay) Lemons, Heather (Lee) Holloway and Hollie Hobbs. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, John and Larkin Graham, Nicholas Watson, Abby, Kent and Wesley Glass, Andrew and Erin Lemons, Alex and Daniel Holloway and Hayden Fowler. "Nana" was especially proud of her six granddaughters and greatly loved her great-grandchildren. Mae was also a beloved aunt of many nieces and nephews. One of her special joys was visiting with family and friends and sharing her life experiences and delightful sense of humor.Throughout her life, Mae displayed an enjoyment of work. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, growing flowers, quilting and embroidery, and keeping an immaculate home. A willingness to work hard and a strong work ethic will be her special legacy.Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12, in the funeral home chapel with the Revs. Ken and Cathy Waddell officiating.Burial will follow in Old Antioch Cemetery in Cedar Grove community with Will Glass, Jay Lemons, Lee Holloway, Ralph Guthrie, Homer Merritt and Jerry McWhorter serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be nieces and nephews.Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today and from noon until time of the funeral on Thursday.Arrangements are by Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home.
