Martha Pennybacker

Martha Marian Hackney Pennybacker, of Lexington, Ky., wife of Rev. Dr. Albert M. Pennybacker Jr., died Monday, Sept. 8, 2013.In addition to her husband of 62 years, she is survived by her children, Dr. Susan Dabney Pennybacker, Chapel Hill, N.C., Janet Pennybacker Scott, Lexington, Ky., David W. Pennybacker, Rowlett, Texas; her granddaughters, Wynston and Spencer, Rowlett, Texas; and her Harvey cousins.She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. F. Russell Hackney; her grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. F. J. Hackney; and her aunt Edythe Harvey, all of Chattanooga.She was a graduate of Bright School and the Girls Preparatory School, both of Chattanooga, and George Peabody Teachers College of Vanderbilt University, Nashville. Much of her life was focused on being a homemaker. In addition she taught in public and private schools, working in early childhood education. Her church activities included teaching children's classes in the Sunday School, serving in the Christian Womens Fellowship and actively supporting Church Women United.Services: Saturday, Sept. 14, at Central Christian Church in Lexington.Graveside services at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at Chattanooga Memorial Park, Memorial Drive, Chattanooga.Friends may greet her family there and at First Christian Church, 650 McCallie Ave., Chattanooga, following the service.Memorials to the memorial fund of First Christian Church, Chattanooga, to "Best Friends", Christian Care Communities, 516 Maryland Ave., Lexington, KY 40508, or to a charity of your choice.A full obituary is available at www.milwardfuneral.com.
