Dick McKinley

Richard M. McKinley, 70, of Meridian, Idaho, passed away Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, in a local hospital after sustaining a head injury resulting from a fall at his home.Dick was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, by his parents, Paul A. and Betty J. Woltersdorf McKinley. As a teenager, he received his Eagle Scout rank from Troop 16 at Salem Church. Dick graduated from Washington High School in 1961 and earned a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Iowa in 1966. He married the love of his life, Marilyn Starkweather, at Salem United Methodist Church on June 26, 1965, where they were both members from their early childhood.Dick became a loving father to three beautiful daughters. He was employed by Chevron for 35 years which took him to many places. He and his family resided in Southern California, Alaska, Northern California, Canada and he traveled internationally. Retirement found him living on the river in Chattanooga, where he made many of his best memories. Dicks interests included boating, fishing, woodworking and driving trips across the country with his wife. Dick and Marilyn moved to Idaho in early 2010 to be close to family. He was a patient, kind and faithful man which stemed from his love for Christ.Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Marilyn; daughter, Ann (Drew) Bianco; daughter, Heather (Ben) Rice; mother, Betty McKinley; sister, Linda (Greg) Smith; son-in-law, Tim Malo; and 11 wonderful grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Mckinley; and daughter, Karen Malo.A memorial service is planned at Spring Creek Assisted Living Ustick on Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. in Meridian, Idaho.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Salem United Methodist Church in Dicks honor to 3715 33rd Ave, SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52404.
