Georgia Kennedy

Georgia Mae Crownover Kennedy, 105, passed away on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013 at Golden Living Center, Mountain View, Winchester, Tenn. Mrs. Kennedy was the daughter of Roland (Dode) Crownover and Lula Luvenia Spaulding Crownover. She was born in Chattanooga on Dec. 12, 1907. She lived in Franklin County most of her life except for a period in the 1920s when she lived in Akron, Oh.Affectionately known as Miss Georgia, she had a great love for her family, her church and history. She was member of Christ Episcopal Church Alto where she served as organist for nearly 50 years. She guided many children through Christmas and Easter pageants. She was a lifetime member of the Franklin County Historical Society and spent 15 years with "Project Preservation", which organizes and preserves historical records. Mrs. Kennedy also compiled historical records of her church and Calvary Church, Roarks Cove, as well as detailed genealogical histories of her extended family. Many individuals sought her input when researching their own family tree. She was a past president of the Peter Turney Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also spent many hours quilting with the Franklin County Senior Citizens Quilters and FCE clubs.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Kennedy, Jr.; one grandson, James David Kennedy; two great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Robert, Leonard and Joe Crownover.Survivors include her daughter Betty Lou (Charles) Rose, of Decherd, Tenn.; a son, James H. Kennedy, of Pensacola, Fla.; a sister Laura Jean Schutt, of Orlando, Fla.; a brother, Miller Crownover, of Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Dennis (Elissa) Rose, Glenn (Barbara) Rose, Diane Larson, Sharon (Tom) Halley, and Elizabeth Kennedy; 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.Visitation is today, Sept. 23 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Watson North Funeral Home. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday Sept. 24 at Christ Episcopal Church, Alto with the Rev. Craig Gates and the Rev. Scott James presiding. Interment was at Mt Garner Cemetery, Decherd, Tn. Memorial donations may be made to Christ Church Alto, 9616 Old Alto Highway, Decherd Tn. 37324.
