RELIANCE Shannon Mary OMara VanDevander Biggs Hays went to sleep with Jesus Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, in a local healthcare facility.She was born on Nov. 23, 1922 to the late Selma and James OMara of Indianapolis, Ind. Shannon was a graduate of the old Emrich Manual High School in Indianapolis. She was loved by all those who knew her and was a charter member of Benton Seventh-day Adventist Church.She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Lewthaniel Pettigrew; late husband, Ed Hays; and grandson, Kirk Key.She is survived by her three sons, Robert H. (Donna) VanDevander Jr., John M. (Sharon) VanDevander and David J. (Angela) VanDevander; adopted daughter, Louise Ostgard; grandchildren, Angie (Tom) Krukemeier, Rob (Terri) VanDevander III, Julie (Don) Gabler, Linda (John) Waters, David VanDevander II and Matthew VanDevander; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, James OMara, of Indianapolis, Ind. and Richard (Pat) O'Mara, of Beechgrove, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews.Interment will be in a private ceremony in Etowah, Tenn., and a memorial service will be held at a later date.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to 3 ABN or Laurelbrook Nursing Home in Dayton, Tenn.Higgins Funeral Home in Benton, Tenn., is in charge of the arrangements.
